I was there a few years ago and saw the the bridge but didn’t know about the library or secret gardens! I’ll need to plan a trip there next time I’m in the south of France.
The bridge is on the far side of the "new" town, so it's easy to stop by to see the bridge and totally miss the old town. The latter covers a large expanse and is filled with great middle-age and Renaissance architecture, fun shops, good restaurants...I'll be wrapping up my Cahors series at the end of the week. Thanks for signing up!
I thought it was a fascinating town. I'd barely been there myself despite its being less than 2 hours away. The whole Occitanie region is worth getting to know, but I suppose this is true of other regions too...
It really is lovely. We are less than 2 hours away and I had only barely set foot there, just a quick drive by Le Pont Valentré in 1996! I'll be writing two more posts about it and feel like I'm only scratching the surface.
Betty this is fabulous… I do hope thé Cahors tourist board reward you in some small way for such wonderful publicity! You’re absolutely right about the Cathedral, and the cloisters too… (have you visited the cloister in Villefranche de Rouergue yet? With the trip IMO and apparently the second largest in France) I will be making a trip to that library in the summer too… just wow! X
I have visited the cloister in Villefranche, but a long time ago when we first moved here, so my memories are vague. At the Cahors library, you would love consulting the " herbiers". Some of them happened to be on display as part of the Cahors Juin Jardin festival.
Great post!
What a great read! Thank you for sharing this
It was a great place -- so many things to see!

Thanks for this. I've not been to Cahors or anywhere near it, but now I'm intrigued. Maybe next year!

We were in Cahors a few years ago but didn't spend nearly enough time. Next time!
