Change is in the air, that’s obvious. I had already spotted the uber-popular “tapas/planches” trend (at the expense of regular dinner options) You gave me food for thought with the “marchés gourmands.” — I agree with you: traditional eateries will have to become more flexible if they want to survive the times. Who would have thought French restaurants would allow diners to split a first or a main course one day?! It just wasn’t done. And yet…

Hi Betty. This is an excellent article on changing dining habits across France, with reasons clearly explained. As you have mentioned, we seldom dine out there since we rent a house where we are able to eat at home. Also, as seniors, we have small meals, limiting our meat intake and desserts. The boulangerie/pâtisserie remains high on our list for croissants and lunchtime sandwiches.
